How Do I Vote?

Police and Crime Commissioner Elections take place on 7 May 2020. There are elections in 40 police force areas across England and Wales (except London and Manchester where the role is carried out by the elected Mayor).

There is one Police and Crime Commissioner for each area – our area is Avon and Somerset consisting of the 4 unitary authorities – Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire – and the County of Somerset. There are Mayoral and Councillor elections taking place in Bristol on the same day but no other votes in other areas on that day.

You must be registered to vote and at least 18 years of age. The vote uses the Supplementary Vote system which means you get 2 choices. You vote in the usual way – as at the recent general election – either by post or by attending your local polling station.

For more details and information about the role of the Police and Crime Commissioner see the Electoral Commission website. https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter/types-elections/police-and-crime-commissioners
